The Alternate Games
Game TV
Bored by Olympic events such as fencing and gymnastics? Then turn your attention to lesser-known competitions like Glutton Bowl: The World's Greatest Eating Competition (August 13), in which contestants eat their way through such odd items as sticks of butter and jars of mayonnaise. There's also the International King of Sports (beginning August 11) — with events like "Individual Fall Down" and "Head Long Dive." Ouch!

When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions
Discovery Channel (August 10 and August 17)
This soaring series covers America's conquest of space from the first Mercury mission to the repair of the Hubble Space Telescope in late 1993.
